Black Hole Dynacomp1980BLACK HOLE is a visual simulation of the problems associated with closely observing a small black hole.
The object of the simulation is to enter a defined close orbit about a black hole, maintain it for a given length of time, and then exit.
Of course, if you use too much fuel in achieving the orbit, you may not be able to later break free.

The black hole acts as a point source of gravity.
Your probe is outfitted with a main thruster and may be rotated to direct the force.
The path taken by the probe is displayed so that you may better understand the interplay between the thrust and its direction, and the subsequent change in trajectory.

BLACK HOLE is not only entertaining and challenging, but is also educational.
Notice how the probe speed slows towards the apogee.
Is angular momentum conserved under free fall? See Kepler's and Newton's laws in action!***This simulation has the goal of the player piloting a spacecraft into orbit of a black hole and escaping again. As the manual says, "See Kepler's and Newton's laws in action!" Notably, they don't mention Einstein. But it does simulate orbital mechanics and requires the player to manage fuel for the trip into orbit and the trip out. The meat of the game is trying to set the lowest possible orbit that can still be escaped from.

The black hole is a very special black hole that does not cause time dilation, has a Michell even horizon, only gravitationally effects matter and does not effect radiation, has no accretion disk, does not emit hawking radiation, does not cause friction in its surroundings, the list goes on, Someone should write a paper... But it does simulate orbital mechanics and requires the player to manage fuel for the trip into orbit and the trip out. That's kinda impressive on an Apple][ in 1980.

Of further note, at the time of this game's publishing, Dynacomp was producing over 24 games that were cross platform to all 6 different platforms they supported. Black Hole was an unusual exception. It was Apple][ only.

The original name of this game was actually Apple Galaxian, but both the company that produced the arcade game "Galaxian" and Apple Computer objected to their name being used in the title of this game, so Broderbund was obligated to change it to something else.
This became quite typical for computer translations of arcade games; even if it looked and acted much like a particular arcade game, it was unlikely that the game's arcade name would appear on the personal computer version, unless it was an "authorized" version.***Fly over planet shooting and dodging invaders and saving kidnapped inhabitants. Outstanding hi-res graphics, challenging refueling sequence.

Hadron Sirius Software1981This is a first person perspective space combat game. Damage enemy crafts, but try not to completely disable or destroy them. So that, these crafts will retreat to their previously unlocated motherships and bases; those being priority targets for you're limited ammunition and fuel. After each success, return to you own base for ammo and refueling. labelimagesubject

MSRP: $49.95

Your trapped in a the robot city, Robotropolis. You must navigate the city by designing and soldering logic circuits into discarded robots. You'll need to find batteries, battery chargers (unless you work extremely efficiently), keys, tokens, sensors, and microchips, among other things. But more important than any items you find in the game is the item resting between your shoulders, your brain. The puzzles in this game have no absolute solution (but hints and parts are sometimes provided for a solution predetermined by the game designers), instead you must design the solutions that you think will work. The unofficial sequel to [game=#20413]Rocky's Boots[/game]. Uses a much more advanced engine to drive very, very complex logic circuitry and animations. Although the puzzles in the game don't come close to needing the complexity this game is capable of delivering. It is educational, just don't tell anyone because this game is way to much fun to spoil.

In the Sewer level, you can find initials of 8 of the authors.

There are 4 sides to this program! Depending on what version you have, all sides of the disks may contain useful chips. Check'em out.

The copy protection of this game will prevent the soldering iron from working (even if legitimately used). The disks are a modified DOS 3.3 format. Enter B942:18 in the Apple's monitor program, copy the disks, then Enter B942:36. Edit the disks and change $000FD2 and $040EEB to 38. Now you have disks suitable to dump for emulation.

"Klaatu Barada Nikto" is a reference to the old black and white classic sci-fi, The Day the Earth Stood Still
There is a Dalek in The Sewers level.

Dr. Maxwell's Molecule Magic Scholastic1987The player is tasked with collecting and compressing air by altering density, temperature, and volume with various lab equipment. If the player can store enough Delta-V energy in compressed air, it can be used to thrust a rocket to a trip to the Moon.

For the nitpickers out there, yes it is realistic to hit the Moon with a craft propelled by compressed air. However, carrying a payload (scientific interments or person), landing safely, or returning to earth, is not so realistic.

Description: "The war between the Zarpathian Empire and the Centauri Confederation has gone on for almost a century. Looking to make some money and win some glory, you enlist as a mercenary for the Zarpathians. Grudgingly they allow you to keep your favorite weapons, but they insist on issuing you a quantum blaster rifle.

"A vessel to which you are assigned crash-lands on the desolate planet Osiris 5, and you are knocked unconscious. When you come to, you realize that the rest of the crew has used the only functional escape pod and left you behind. There is another escape pod onboard, but it lacks a dyrillium power crystal.

"You have crashed near some ruins. With no more than your personal weapons and a sensor helmet, you must find a way off this planet!"

Review: This adventure is our second by new author David Owens. Once again, David set out to make as good as adventure as he could make with little to no special programming, relying instead on the strengths of the 7.1 DDD. This adventure came out even better than his first try.

This is mainly a game for puzzlers. There are 52 rooms and several containers, and you must work your way around as you search for the keys, tools and protective gear you will need before you finally escape.

The SF aspect is fairly low-key, and I didn't find it to be a particular plus or minus. David did an excellent job of setting up a succession of goals to achieve. I did not find the opponents excessively difficult with the standard "Sam" character, although I did take the precaution of fleeing from multiple foes to thin them down. There is a healing potion that was ample to keep me going, making the removal of spells possible.

Perhaps the item I enjoyed the most was the desert, which was the best maze that Eamon has seen in a very long time. I've always enjoyed a good maze, and this no doubt contributed to my overall scoring.

If you like puzzling and mazing, you won't go wrong here.

Difficulty of about (7).
